The preference is for this position to be based in Boston or Washington DC. We may also consider a fully remote position in states where JSI R&T is registered (AZ, AR, CA, CO, DC, FL, GA, IL, LA, ME, MD, MA, MI, MN, NH, NJ, NM, NY, NC, PA, RI, TN, TX, VT, VA, WA, WI).
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support routine proposal development in the following capacities (as relevant per skillset): advisory role (capture and proposal development), capture lead/coordinator, technical writer, capacity building support, and/or trainer support.
- Support or lead capture phase activities as coordinator, including in-country information gathering, partnership strategy and cultivation, and other positioning activities.
- Engage with NBD team, JSI leadership, and cross-functional teams to develop and maintain robust short-, medium-, and long-term pipeline of funding opportunities.
- Contribute to the management, upkeep and adaptation of new business development knowledge management platforms (including JEMS/Salesforce, Google Drive, and Slack).
- Conduct data analyses using information from JSI’s knowledge management platform, JEMS.
- Undertake efforts to improve the NBD process at JSI including development and revision of new resources, tools, templates, and training materials.
- Support implementation of a cross-divisional staff training plan, training sessions, and orientations on JSI’s new business development processes and systems to build staff capacity.
- Routinely analyze changes in donor trends. Share data with the BD team and support development of strategies for strategic growth/direction of NBD resources.
- Lead internal post-submission debriefs to learn and improve processes and systems.
- Work closely with the core NBD team members, the extended BD team members across the international division and World Education (WE) divisions, and corporate functions as needed to ensure standardized NBD operations.
- Contribute, as time allows, to ongoing programs or other organization initiatives as assigned or needed, up to but not exceeding 20% time.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree and 2-4 years’ experience working for an international development organization or Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years’ experience, including experience in new business development for international organizations.
- Experience coordinating business development processes, including experience with supporting live proposal development efforts.
- Strong written communication skills, including demonstrated ability to write required documents in a clear, concise, well-organized manner.
- Knowledge about international development, current trends and priorities, particularly in the field of global public health.
- Experience successfully working with international/cross-cultural teams; experience working in non-U.S. settings preferred.
- Knowledge of USAID, Gavi, and/or Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation programmatic priorities, business solicitation practices, rules and regulations.
- Strong interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills.
- Strong presentation and public speaking skills.
- Fluency in English, written and oral. Fluency in other languages preferred.
- Experience working with Salesforce databases preferred.
- Experience managing Google Workspaces preferred.
- Willingness to travel internationally as necessary (~15-20%).
