The Senior Associate, Global Health will play an active role on multiple projects within the Global Health domain with increased focus on work in Francophone West Africa. S/he may contribute to a variety of projects including the U.S. Agency for Development’s (USAID) flagship SBC project, Breakthrough ACTION. S/he will lead field-based application of the behavioral design methodology for specific health behaviors and will work alongside project team members to build behavioral science and design capacity. This associate will possess applied experience in behavioral science, SBC, and/or human-centered design (HCD) and demonstrated abilities in complex project and partner management. S/he will have strong capacities for strategic thinking, application of best practices, and innovative approaches for SBC and/or health behavior change. This location of the role is flexible and will include travel to other countries on the African continent as well as possible travel to other continents including the United States. Specific responsibilities may include:
- Facilitate project execution in coordination with project teams across all stages and aspects of ideas42’s applied behavioral design methodology, including—but not limited to—problem definition, behavioral diagnosis, intervention design, implementation, monitoring, and impact evaluation;
- Contribute to behavioral science and design capacity building, communities of practice, knowledge management, and dissemination internally with consortium partners as well as with external stakeholders
- Developing full-scale project plans, structure and timelines;
- Assisting/leading primary and secondary research such as surveys, interviews, and literature reviews
- Contributing to grant proposals, policy papers, and other external communications
- Participating in internal strategic projects, including various aspects of organizational improvement
Required qualifications include:
- Professional proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing in French and English
- Experience working in West Africa
- Bachelor’s with 4 or more years of relevant work experience
- Experience working in public health, including experience providing technical guidance in large and complex activities
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with behavioral science, SBC, innovation, or HCD
- Qualitative research skills, including conducting user interviews
- Experience engaging with government and/or NGO partners in Francophone West Africa
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a commitment to high-quality output
- Strong project management skills and highly organized, with the ability to efficiently and effectively coordinate roles, responsibilities, and inputs from different team members and liaise with stakeholders outside the project team.
- Willingness to travel on a flexible schedule as needed (up to 35%)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Preferred qualifications include:
- Master’s or other advanced degree in the social and behavioral sciences or public health
- 6 years of related work experience
- Experience managing or supporting activities on USAID projects
- Experience working in West Africa
- Proficiency in local languages in Burkina Faso, Niger, Democratic Republic of Congo, or other local languages spoken in francophone countries across Sub-Saharan Africa
